Gavrio

The Port of Andros Where Everything Begins and Ends

Gavrio, Andros.

A beautiful seaside village that could be described as the place where everything starts and ends for this stunning Cycladic island.

This is because, first and foremost, the western side of Andros, where Gavrio is located, is the first sight that greets travelers approaching the island.

Additionally, Gavrio serves as the main port of Andros, making it, without exaggeration, truly the beginning and the end of everything.

The village experienced remarkable growth in the late 1960s when it was established as Andros’ primary port, following the discontinuation of routes to Chora.

Along with its economic boom, more houses and tourist businesses sprang up around the harbor, transforming Gavrio into a major tourist destination.

The Beaches of Gavrio, Andros

Gavrio is surrounded by Harakas Beach and is undoubtedly a notable holiday destination—not just because of the arrivals and departures at its port, but also because just 3 kilometers away, you’ll find two of the island’s most beautiful beaches: Chrysi Ammos (also known as Psili Ammos or Chrysi Akti) and Agios Petros.

Chrysi Ammos is one of the most well-organized beaches on Andros and attracts hundreds of visitors daily. It owes its name to the distinctive golden color of its sand, which makes it truly stand out.

Agios Petros is undoubtedly the island’s largest beach. Its sand is similar to that of Chrysi Ammos, and it is also fully organized. However, due to its vast size, it manages to be both lively and secluded, depending on what you’re looking for! Here, you’ll find a variety of tavernas, bars, and tourist shops, as well as water sports centers for those seeking adventure.
